Though a passport is sufficient, the passport card is convenient, and fits in your wallet and is good for domestic travel as well as Canada, Mexico, and U.S. territories.
Safest way to travel by far. Have a drink, enjoy the beautiful engineering that is at work, and look out at the land our forefathers fought to give us.
Strangely I find watching Air Disaster or Mayday to help with that. You get to see how much has to go wrong for accidents to happen and we learned a lot from prior crashes.
I know it sounds like a LARP but this year has really motivated me to save up for SHTF gear even though my income is fairly mediocre; I’ve bought a high-quality steel knife, a good plate carrier, and more. When the lockdown came, I started exercising to get into better shape. When I get the money, I’m going to buy the armor plates for my carrier and start training in it. I’ve specifically cut back on video game purchases and entertainment to prepare just in case America thinks it’s ammo box time.
It is not LARP to have a bug out bag with fresh clothes, medical supplies, tools and other essentials. Being prepared is smart and what is important as an adult. We are not powerless as we can control our destiny.
Especially considering we live in a time when everything is so readily available. All it takes is some focus and you can equip yourself better than people in the last who were more likely to need it.

The food you buy in the grocery markets can be 5x fresher/healthier/tastes better than US markets. The daily fresh bread doesn't exist in the US. My first night in Paris I went to the Bataclan (a couple years before the attack). Got a great glass of red wine... for $3. The women aren't covered in tattoos and they don't mind if you watch them walk by.
In their wonderful parks you'll see many people sitting and reading books. They sell more books per capita than anywhere else. I could go on.
