In the 90s and early 2000s evolution was big political issue. Even tho evolution has minimal to no consequences for public policy (or even any relevance in vast majority of scientific careers) leftists made it into one. The southern Baptists in GOP took the bait and defended creationism.
And the liberal democrats framed the gop as “anti-science” from that.
It was extremely annoying having leftists arrogantly and self righteously lecture me about my “anti science religious beliefs.” I’m a biologist and non religious. They couldn’t process that I am a conservative and scientist so they concluded that as a republican i must be a scientist who doesn’t believe in science.

They somehow made religion and scienece contradicting to one another, which is totally false. Science leads people to God, not away from Him. And speaking of evolution, the leftists are not so smart as they think they are. As a matter of fact, there is VARIATION, that is, numerous different breeds of one species. Chihuahua, golden retriever and german sheperd definitely share one common ancestor, no question about that. Maybe they even share one common ancestor with wolves. But if you suggest that they share a common ancestor with birds, fish and even germs which all derive from the roof of the "evolution tree", that is nuts. For the record, God created KINDS of animals and let Adam name them.
