If the federal government was spread around the country rather than concentrated in DC, VA would go back to being a red state. In the age of remote work, there’s no reason for so many fed workers to be in DC. It raises property and rent prices and taxpayers have to shoulder the burden of financing the higher cost of living (which is self-inflicted by placing so many enormous federal agencies in one small area).

Amazon is 20-40k and many can't vote because they are here on visa's. The number of people either directly working for the government, subcontractors, or lobbyists in VA is hundreds of thousands.

Just more proof that the government is too damn big

Agree. Why, for instance, should the Department of Agriculture be located in a place that doesn't a big agriculture industry?

Why shouldn't the Federal Railroad Administration be located in a place with a lot of railroad traffic like Texas?
