Say hypothetically I've never prepped before and I don't know what to stock up with, what should I buy?

I was a former city apartment dwelling homesteading mama (fancy words for dirt poor). So...... Flour, sugar, canned things (I prefer veggies, cream of chicken, cheese soup, fruits, tomatoes paste & evaporated milk), powdered milk for drinking, and dried meats. I'd make the jerky from scratch out of cheap chuck roast. Oh, and rice! These went a long way when things got tough for us. Oh, and don't forget to buy a hand crank can opener. It's much easier than a P38! Learn basic cooking while your at it. Just stick to meat, veg & a starch. It's not 5 star but it'll fill the belly.

You dont have to go crazy with it, just throw a few extras in your cart when you go to the store. I tend to double up on things every now and again so I got a good rotation of food. My family comes from real salt of the earth, farming, OG backwoods folk so it's a habit for us. My elderly parents still shop like that to this day and they live in a large very nice suburb.
