Sparta separated power into three basic branches of government: Executive (two kings one to lead war and one to rule slightly similar to our president and Vice President ), the Gerousia (council of retired elder soldiers similar to our senate), Apella (National Assembly consisting of every free male soldier similar to our House of Representatives), and the Ephors, similar to our Judicial branch the could accuse anyone even kings and prosecute them under law.
