They ignored Alito's order? That's actually good for us. The other Justices are going to look at that and realize that if they have no respect for his position as a member of the SCOTUS then they probably have no respect for them either.
A good way to get someone set against you is to pull a stunt like this -- that's actually a very stupid move on their part.
SCOTUS could move to sanction them by simply invalidating all the mail in ballots. Then PA would have to sufficiently prove their validity
Would give precedent for ignoring the state Supreme Court, throwing out all ballots received after election day, and sending Trump electors otherwise.
(precedent as a good reason to do it, not as the legal definition of precedent)
It's contempt of court. Everyone who was charged with preserving could be fined and/or sent to jail.
The punishment? I’m guessing nothing.
When it really really matters "nothing" seems par for the course. Only the little people have anything to fear.
