Basically my analogy comes down to - you're playing checkers with someone and winning hardcore, the table gets "accidentally" knocked over (plausible deniability), and as you work to restore the board you get this nagging feeling that they definitely had half as many pieces left as they're putting back on. And the observer wasn't recording the game state.
