FEC campaign contribution limits exempt the candidate, so Trump can provide the match. It makes a lot of sense for him to structure his own contributions in the form of a match.
You could look at the total his campaign raised and the amount he contributed himself to get a sense of it. I'm guessing that's all publicly available information. But the match changes all the time, often there is no match, 1000% is not common, so it would be difficult to say precisely just from knowing the totals.
Any more info on this and how it works? Like they can boost your donation until you hit your own contribution limit? Wouldn't have thought something like that could be done.
I dont know too much about it myself, was curious about this in the past in did some reading on what a match means exactly. Its complicated, both sides do it, and I dont think it effects your donation at all...somehow.
And the way I remember it being explained, if you were paying for something at the store but were short, and a random stranger covers the rest of the bill for you. Nothing illegal

Does he actually match like that though?

I don't know, not sure who else it could be.
Whoever it is they are wealthy. If it were anyone else (I think) the matches would have to go a separate fund due to FEC individual limits ($2800).
If they're already at their limit that means they cannot contribute anymore to the fund.
Its the mega rich Trump donors that have already given their limit, legally they are allowed to add to our donation.
