Right, I'm with you on that. Any kind of blockchain, at least, but not only, if used only for printing ballots, won't fix all things magically. There are several proposals I've found out from other friends since mentioning this, including from the inventor of the Bash shell (smart guy) for using blockchains to verify the entirety of ballots cryptographically, including their contents as-filled, but just verifying legitimate ballots as-printed isn't enough.

There's also the matter of balancing security and traceability with anonymity. It's a very complicated challenge.
