As title says, I've found a dude who claims to have the footage, but he's not sure how to export it. Looking online they obviously don't officially support it, but what way would be best to get the footage out? Could youtube-dl somehow work, if login cookies could be passed?

Worst case would be to do a screen recording, but I'm not sure I can convince the dude if it's going to take that long.

If it is on a DVR it will be a hard drive unit but someone will need a usb stick to access. I'm just a programmer but I'm sure there are industrious pedes on here that could rip that off there.

What if he just played it back and recorded the playback?

It's on the youtube tv dvr, so it's in their proprietary cloud dvr. Playing it back and recording it would be a sure way, but I'm wondering if there's a faster way to rip it, sort of like how youtube-dl can rip a multi hour video in minutes. My only concern is since it's in their dvr, youtube-dl would have to know how to login, and access it if it's streamed differently.

If there isn't a faster way I'll see if he'd be willing to do the playback and record, I'm just concerned that since it likely would tie up the machine for hours, he may not want to do it.

Playback might be the only way. Hook it up to a recording device... capture card or VCR/dvd recorder. Theres not much time left for analysis and more than a few hours of playback is worth the potential benefit. Sounds like your buddy has a job to do.

An industrious user posted the magnet links to the CNN and MSNBC streams, which are still active as of time of writing.

If you're not familiar with magnet links, you'll need a torrent client like qBitorrent. Copy said magnet link and add to your torrent client or you can paste it in your browsers address bar and it should start your torrent client fetching it.

Thanks so much! Last I had heard it was still missing, I wasn't aware a copy was found. I'll go ahead and download this.

wetransfer

ancientarchitect369 [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

wetransfer is just for moving the file once we have it, right? The main concern here is getting a raw mp4 or similar file exported from his youtube tv dvr.

Worst case we can do a playback and record and get a raw mp4 that way, but I'm mainly looking to see if there's a faster way to export.
