BJJ is great for one on one, but the last thing you wanna do when they have friends around is be on the ground. IMO it should be more of a supplement for if/when the fight does go to the ground. A 'stand up' art should be studied as well, even if its just boxing.
Theres no need to feel personally attacked. I am 100% correct - its not a good idea to go to the ground and its best to study something different in tandem with BJJ.
Ive taken BJJ, Aikido, Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing and Muy Thai. Im here to tell you that you want a stand up art to go with it.
6 months of virtually any art and you'll be able to control the average mongoloid off the street. I also carry, because this isnt high school and Im 40 years old. We arent going to get into a slug fest or a wrestling match on the street like its high school. Im just going to aerate your chest and head.

Lol. There comes a point in every man's life when you don't want to risk that 1% chance of a lifelong injury, disfigurement, or death just to prove you can physically dominate someone who's probably either an idiot or insane.
I've pretty much reached that point. Ill deescalate if possible and give them every chance to back off, but I'm not going toe to toe with someone half my age no matter how good I think I am. There's a reason most pro fighters cant hang with the young'uns when they get older, and its not skill level. I'm pretty confident I can put pretty much any idiot on the street on their ass quickly; Id just rather not.
Same. It looks like you just got emotional over something you didnt like on the internet and are now backpedaling because you know Im right...but then go back into mental gymnastics to justify your first post. At this point it feels kind of like discussing something with a crazy chick.
Nah. You're thinking of original Japanese Jui Jitsu which was turned into the sport Judo with the lethality and violence removed from it, which was turned into BJJ. Don't let your strip mall McDojo lie to you. BJJ is a sport and it will get you killed outside of your mats and referees.

BJJ is a sport. It is not a martial art. Nobody cares about your rules in a street fight and there's no referee.
