I 100% agree that it's racist to say that minorities are too stupid to get IDs.
But I say we call them on their bluff. Early in Trump's second term he should launch a program to provide FREE Real ID compliant identification cards to every legal resident of the US that wants or that needs one before the midterm elections.
The program should include mobile ID-making stations to be deployed in underprivileged areas, as well as education and outreach campaigns to help people get the documents they need to get their real ID. (For example, helping people get copies of their birth certificates and Social security cards.)
Frame the public ID program as a civil rights issue, since people without ID can't apply for public housing, welfare, legally work ,fly on commercial aircraft, get a passport, buy tobacco, alcohol, medical marijuana, go to a doctor/hospital, rent a car or a hotel room, buy a car, get car insurance, etc.
Then you destroy the voter ID argument completely: everyone who wants an ID can easily get one, for FREE.
And once again Trump will have actually helped poor minority folks instead of just whining about "racism" and "obstacles" like the Democrats do.
I'll take it a step further. There should be no fees of any kind from the government. If the government wants me to have a license plate, the government pays for it. If my little township wants me to pay permitting fees for building a tree house, they pay for it. There's no reason government mandated things should cost money to the individual. It's a ridiculous burden and very wrong. I don't need a license to cut hair, or to register my car, which you force me to do, ever year, for no reason.

Funny how nobody ever seems to have any trouble getting one of THOSE cards. But a simple photo ID card? It's IMPOSSIBLE, I tell you!!!!!

We need to put a moratorium on that ASAP.
When my husband lost his job back during the recession of the Obama era, we had to go on Food Stamps temporarily. We were required to fill out an application, but we weren't required to provide actual proof of income, or any ID really. We just had to demonstrate that we were actively trying to support ourselves but couldn't.
Which actually means that we had to write a short letter saying that my husband lost his job and is looking for work but we need help. He signed the letter. Then we had to submit "proof" that we had applied to jobs each week. The proof was just another letter basically where we listed jobs that he had applied to and whether or not he had heard back from them. Literally no hard evidence was required at any point in this process.
Several people that I knew back then were just making shit up. They didn't work and weren't looking for work. They weren't even trying to do anything to improve their situation. They just wrote up their weekly piece of fiction and sent it off to the welfare office.
When we finally got back on our feet and no longer needed food stamps, I had to actually play phone tag for about an hour before I could find someone who would put a stop to the benefits that were getting added to our food stamp card every month. No one I talked to seemed to know how to actually do that. It was like they'd never had anyone request to stop receiving benefits. But if I hadn't they were just going to keep dumping hundreds of dollars into an account every single month whether or not I gave them the evidence they'd originally requested.

I agree, it’s concerning to say the least... once they pop the top the fun isn’t going to stop for a while. I want to play devils advocate here though. If there is a coordinated effort by the right and we are able to make this happen quickly (which I believe we could) and the infrastructure that keeps the country moving isn’t destroyed we might not be living in that dark ages when it’s all said and done.
