I am "technologically impaired" I guess: Why does it take servers in Germany owned by a company in Spain programmed by a company in Canada with complex programs and algorithms to simply optically scan ballots and then tally the votes? It seems to me this ought to be within the capability of a hard-wired desktop PC - without bluetooth or wi-fi - running Windows 7 and simple software. Add a couple of backup external hard drive(s) and a parallel PC as backup - and an armed guard stationed in front of it controlling access for security. It shouldn't be rocket surgery!

It should be very simple, open source, and have test series proving reliability.
