I want to help by saving videos before they are taken down, but I am tech challenged and on top of that, have linux. I tried using youtube dl but got a message that it wouldn't work. Someone said I'd need python, tried to download that, but there was so much stuff I didn't understand. It's not like a regular download. If you know how to help me, please do. Can dm me if you prefer. Thanks.

The github repository was taken down due to to a DMCA takedown notice. They have it on their website though. https://youtube-dl.org/

yeah, that's where I started but it didn't work and someone advised me I need python. But I don't know how to get it. When I open the site, it just looks like a bunch of gibberish to me and it's obviously designed for people who know something about this stuff already.
