I used to love his movies. Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Raiders were some of my favorite movies ever. However, after hearing some of the rumors about him, it's very difficult for me to enjoy his movies anymore or even want to rewatch his movies I used to enjoy.
What about you guys?
if you're gonna boycott everything made by bad people you have to go back to living in a cave
Its hard to watch any of the mainstream films today, they're all pretty much political. I've been checking out independent stuff, like Shane Carruth and that flick Jack Rabbit.
Paul Thomas Anderson makes some really good --not blatantly political-- movies. He's one of my favorite directors. He with Daniel Day Lewis is A+
Cool thanks. I just checked imdb, Anderson did Boogie Nights, a great film.
I'm asking specifically about Spielberg films though. I think discussing movies in general warrants a new topic
Yep. And so much more. Right now I’ve boycotted more I the last 5 days than I have in my 60 decades.
You're 600 years old?
These considerations should be entirely limited to influencing your financial support. Will I pay Hollywood creeps for what they produce? No. Will I allow their character flaws to deny me the entertainment of movies and music and TV that I want to watch? Fuck no.
Subtract modern art that involves no scum bags, and there is nothing left. Refusing to enjoy The Pianist, because Polanski is a child rapist, is libtwit thinking. Just don't pay for it.
Chinatown would of been a better example.
Haven't seen it. But The Pianist is one of my favorites. Definitely one of the best WW2 films.
I can enjoy a lot of the older movies. Can't stomach the newer films.. the propaganda is too much.
It's very hard for me to find mainstream movies to enjoy that came out after 2008 (not including movies that came out in 2008).
Goes for TV shows too.. too many featuring broken families and cuck dads.
TV today is basically a vagina with a cable box.
There were some TV shows I used to enjoy that aren't good anymore. Mainly Supernatural and Criminal Minds
I enjoyed Grimm. That was a bit like supernatural.
Me too!
The war stuff he made with Tom Hanks is alright. BoB, Saving Private Ryan, and The Pacific were pretty good but I haven't really watched any movies in the last year. I'll probably watch them again once the war of our times is over.
What's BoB? He didn't direct The Pacific.
Band Of Brothers is fantastic.
Band of Brothers. I think he was one of the producers for The Pacific. Idk how much that entailed but I suppose about as much as Tom Hanks (the other executive producer) did for the show.
He's not in front of the camera, so I don't think about it with him, but any movie with Tom Hanks is ruined for me, for sure.
Even the animated ones like Toy Story?
Yes. All I can think about is, "he's raping kids". Kinda makes it hard to suspend disbelief.
Did you enjoy Tom Hanks movies before the pedo allegations arose?
Yes, for the most part. Toy Story 1/2/3, Apollo 13 (especially), etc.
I'm very free about enjoying a lot of movies, books, TV by people I don't agree with and sometimes don't like (looking at you, Roman Polanski!)
However, I'm much more conservative about which ones I give money to. This is where a library card comes in handy.
Ultimately, the line one draws between art and artist is a personal decision.
Chinatown was a really good movie despite what you think about Roman Polanski.
I decided awhile back to separate my entertainment from my political views. It's exhausting keeping track of what to hate. I will say, I don't give a shit when actors give their political opinions either. I blame the unintelligent people who feel those opinions are of weight.
