Audie was just in for the duration of WWII. Unfortunately, they would not let him into West Point to continue his career as an officer. Audie fought as bravely as Chesty, but he was not a Battalion CO or Regimental CO. I am quite sure that Murphy would have made a great CO on ANY level had he remained in the military. Btw, as many of you may know, millions of very able soldiers and Marines were let go at the end of WWII as demobilization destroyed many billets - just no room in a very downsized force. Even men who wanted to stay in were told to go away.
I have nothing against Audie at all. It was simply a low blow jab at the Army. I’m from a family of Army vets, including my brother, until my sister and I joined the Marines. Just tryin to rile up the soldiers here :)
How dare you. How absolutely dare you! Audie is a great American hero, but he is no Chesty Puller (peace be upon him).
