I thought he did something to make sure he won and took over as chancellor? What did he do?

Once he was appointed chancellor due to Nazi seat gains in the parliament (a position that is not elected, but appointed by the president), the president died, and he allegedly staged an arson attack on the parliament building (some historians aren't sure if Nazis actually did it) and blamed it on the communists. That's probably the act you're thinking of. The parliament then passed the enabling act to give him unfettered power.

Historical revisionism is a hell of a drug, isn't it? All it takes is a less than an hour reading a proper history article or even just watching late night World War II documentaries (they're on all the time and will put you right to sleep) to learn the truth.

  1. Hitler was never elected. He lost the presidential election to Von Hindenberg in... 1933, if I recall correctly. However, the Nazi party made sizable gains in the parliament.

  2. The Nazi party majority in the parliament (I think it was a majority) was able to put pressure on President Von Hindenberg to appoint Hitler as Chancellor, which is sort of like a leader for the parliament. Hitler had very little power compared to Von Hindenberg.

  3. Von Hindenberg died soon after being elected. A fire occurred in the parliament building that was blamed on communists (and maybe Jews?). The Nazi parliament passed the Enabling Act as a result, which gave Hitler his unlimited powers. He then declared himself leader under the newly created office of the Fuhrer.

How the fuck does that compare to President Trump challenging voter fraud in the courts, similar to Al Gore's court fights in 2000?
