Which of those two demographics do you think are happiest?

You pose an interesting question. Yes, of course, I favor marriage. And those who get that done have been able to achieve happiness before getting it done. They are a self selected population.

As few marry today, there must be a perception that the happy way is the not-married way. Some men of course have gone their own way. But if all women were dying to get married, most of them would. They would do whatever it took to get married, including staying virgins, or almost, wearing swishy skirts, perfume, and talking about it a lot. But they don't do any of that.

What has really happened is women have decided against marriage.

They have decided it isn't a good bargain, a good deal for them. Their capacity for fear is greater than their capacity for happiness, and that is all too human.

Happiness is last. Survival is first. Fear is about survival.

If you have a raucous wedding with dancing and free beer on one side of a highway, and a bloody car pileup accident on the other side of the same highway, which one gets the attention?

You know it's the accident.

People are much more fascinated by danger than happiness. Not because they are bad or stupid, but because survival comes first, and an accident may have something to teach about what not to do, so you yourself don't get into a similar accident. The wedding can wait. That is fun but doesn't teach anything.

Marriage has been made scary, to both sexes.

Religion seems to help.

Religion has been made scary also. God as the Big Mean Judge In the Sky is not the whole story of religion, but that's what people see.

Work has been made scary too. You get judged (like religion), you get hit on even though it's illegal, and you get robbed on the way home, and you live in fear of being fired. Scary.

So people, well young people, neither marry, nor pray, nor work, because all three are scary. Then they vote Blue for "American values." To them, American values are not being cross at other people for not doing those things either. And also not looking different.

To them, looks matter a whole lot.

Looks however are not high on the concerns of people who do marry, do pray, and do work. They dress simply, because they are busy.

Interesting view.

I asked the question maybe a bit too scarcastically.

I love my work, my husband is the best thing to ever happen to me, and my faith which was a bit dormant has sprung back to new life since I had my baby. It's sad to think life as I know it is rare. Although many people in my circle have similar lives( young married southern small town folk) Maybe I lucked into it, but I also have made an effort to make life better and escape the trauma of my childhood. All my choices have been very intentional to reach my desired outcome.

As I count my blessings I realize that the macro view with Trump as President has been and will be a protective factor for my way of life. The only thing I fear is having the freedom to persue this life being taken away.
