I mean -a lot of my ancestors fought for the confederacy. But southerners today tend to have more love for the modern union than anyone.

Same here. I have an ancestor who fought with the 43rd Alabama. I have ancestors who were spies for Gen. Nathanael Greene in the Carolinas during the Revolution. My direct male ancestor was hanged by Loyalists in 1781 for letting Patriots meet at his house. The story goes that his wife and young son witnessed the hanging. Can't let them down.

Too often the civil war is painted as evil southerners fighting the righteous north. It was a lot more grey of a situation than most people know.
