With all this election stress (we won. But stay vigilant) I thought it might be fun to talk about something else. I looked over the rules. I didn’t see any violations. I’m not a tool vender or salesman. I don’t want to get banned. I’m not promoting any tools. I love tools. Any excuse to buy one I may take. If I can do the job myself and use it ONCE and come out ahead on money I get a tool. I love tools. Love working on stuff myself. Saving money, the feeling of doing it myself. Want the next generation to know that. I’ve tried that. It’s up in the air. I feel like I was the last to be pushed to learn to fix stuff to put it simply. I hate that. Nobody wants to learn.

Maybe not favorite. Recent favorite. I’m old. Clinton’s were a favorite in the 1990s. Cats forget. It doesn’t take decades. Look at Biden. He is claiming he was upset about the China virus in January. Not true. That’s a lie. Giant lie.

He’s only their current favorite. There is always a forever favorite. Who is that?

I really like this particular screw driver but any snap on ratcheting screw driver is pretty sweet. The T handle and long extention with the magnetic tip is a bonus.

Rivet puller is my favorite. Used to spend days installing nutplates and it’s super relaxing and meditative. Air powered not manual.

I like a good ratchet

I have so many tools it’s hard to know where I got them. Something like a hand tool is probably easier. What I use the most should be the deal. A ratchet is hard to place. John Deere brand. Probably came with some tractor. I acquired it at a pawn shop in a bucket. I know where I got it. I got some big drive stuff super cheap. I got enough to warrant the bucket with only 2-3 tools. That’s my job. I stole it. The search takes time. I look. The deals happen or don’t.

I have a grandfather who had the means to build several shops on his property... paint shop, wood shop, garages... he has the equivalent of a tool museum sitting on 16 acres. Anything in particular I should keep my eyes on? Sad to say but he’s in his late 80s

Anything made in the good ole USA. If he was painting cars he may have a high end air compressor. I’d try not to let some crappy cousin get that. A two stage is expensive. I don’t know much about wood tools. Old USA made tools were made to last forever or be repaired enough to last forever. Even if an old bench won’t fire up, if it’s old school you can probably fix it watching YouTube if you have no idea what you’re doing. Old vises I think were better. Especially if the teeth are replaceable. You rarely see German tools but Japanese tools are great too. Especially if it’s some sort of survey type stuff. A transit or abney level. You don’t know much about tools and you plan to start working stuff. Your buying a house and want to do things yourself? A good work table. Needs to be high enough to stand and work at. If you want to sit, get an adjustable stool. A good heavy steel table is great. I have one thats 4x8 with 6 large locking wheels. They aren’t cheap to build. A good lip on it so you can clamp things to it. I build one out of wood that’s 2x8. The larger one I use more. I put wheels on to roll it out of the garage if I need to. Or in the shade outside. I keep a vise on it. I can take it off quickly if need be but if I have to leave it out I just toss a contractor bag over it in case it rains but a little won’t hurt. I don’t know what your situation is. I’ve been down that road. I have one grandparent left. He’s like 94. He has been in a home since he broke a hip. He’s been pillaged since then and when his wife died and same with the other two. Don’t let the family take your grandads stuff and sell it or pawn it or trade it for drugs like some of mine probably did with my grandparents stuff. Try to inherit it and use it. Carry on what we was doing. If you want to know to what to look to have I can’t think of a better person to ask than the man himself if he’s in good enough condition. 80 isn’t that old but old ain’t the same for us all. Hell, if he can’t tell ya. Go see him anyway. If he’s a good dude. Some aren’t. I’ve rambled on enough for now. If it’s a free for all... work tables/benches get overlooked. If you can weld you will spend loads building a good one. That would be my go to. If you have good intentions I’ll give ya all the help I can. I saw all my grandparents get looted by family. One is still alive and I bet he doesn’t have family photo left they didn’t give him. I have an axe to grind there. If you’re looking to pick out something to get left. I kinda told ya already. Except that wood stuff. I have no idea about that. Big lathes are probably expensive. I hope ya wanna use some of it. I won’t look down if that’s not the case. If you’re young... you may regret parting with it later on. If he has a large collection.... maybe focus on your own interests. You still need a table but I did paint and body. Any table will do for that. Wow! This got long. Starting to sober up. Anything you want to ask. As long as you have good intentions I’ll get back to ya by the weekend. I gotta go shut up now. Not sure if we have a DM function so the rest of the world doesn’t have to read my ramblings. I should find out. MAGA! 😎

Thanks. I’m gonna figure out the message function and send you a couple of pics of his shop. He had four boys, one being my father, and the only son who lives in the same town. My father was the won who took care of my grandmother when she fell and broke her femur. She passed away in a home in late September.

The other sons vary, the oldest seems to care more about preserving the place as it was, but that makes him more likely to lay claim on things. I need to go down there soon and talk to my grandfather just to see how he’s doing, my mom says his mind is going, but I need to check on where he stands with God.

I’ll try to link you some pictures of his place soon. Thanks for your words.

Have to send out 100 FBI agents to insure its not a noose. Or even rope. Gotta be certain.
