The sites are not down persay, so that doesn’t seem as relevant.

It is extremely relevant, though. A 503 indicates that the site/host is down because of maintenance or an error. If a tool like DFEOJM reports the site is up, then it's likely a high traffic or issue on your side. If it reports that it's down, then it's also seeing that behavior.

I see what you’re saying and I should specify that in the case of the 503 it was happening after attempting to archive a page. The site itself was loading fine.

Well that is a bit different. As a former web developer and current software engineer, I can say that most website errors boil down to a handful of issues or less. Most of the time you can duckduckgo the error to get an answer.

Also, if you're needing to archive and those two sites are being finicky, I've had good luck with: https://web.archive.org/
