5 eyes exist to circumvent the prviacy act (what it's called in Canda) in each country. The country can't spy on it's own citizens but can leverage 5 eye to do it instead legally.

I think they were used by our alphabet agencies to carry out the coup. The saboteurs within our government needed to lend legitimacy to the rumors they were spreading about Trump, so they solicited the help of 5 eyes. This way, they could conduct a counterintelligence investigation and cloak it in secrecy.
