Holy crap - a guy hit a phone pole at Mile Marker 86 and took down everything. No cell service, no internet (from anywhere) - only FM radio.

I thought they'd pulled the plug, since there have been rumors.

Back now, but failed the armageddon no-comms test.

You guys are in a very boxed spot. Overseas Highway is the only thing in and out, ground vehicle or data lines. I remember being there with my family quite a few years ago and we got stuck because someone crossed the center line into a telecom worker's van. We didn't get back to our hotel in Stuart (!) until like 03:15. That was nuts!

I should note that the major reason for the delay is that a state coroner had to be flown in on a chopper from clear across the state.

Not saying this happened here, but if they were to "pull the plug" so to speak, it wouldn't surprise me if they did so by causing targeted hardware outages or things such as messing with lines.

Much more plausible deniability in paying some random ass dude to run his car into a telephone pole, than to get all big providers to willingly shutdown their services at the same time, and try and come up with a decent excuse for doing so.
