He was harassing bars/clubs for having live music and people dancing without a license and having the FDNY shut them down so things would appear "safer" for tourists and the rich liberals who were coming in. It had NOTHING to do with illegal immigrants. If anything he brought in more of them. I can't even remember seeing a Mexican in the 80's :P
He did a LOT of good for this city & I'll never take that away from him, but politics goes by what affects us most. I'm a musician and in the bar/club industry so that's what affects me. We lost more places due to him and Bloomberg than anything else. It got to a point where bigger bands wouldn't even come to Manhattan anymore because they would rather play in a non-union venue in Jersey or Long Island as their "New York" date.
Sorry. Did not mean to imply he did - just an example of rules existing but not being enforced. Yes, he did overstep, but bars, strip clubs, etc...will also push the boundaries of what they can do illegally. I don’t agree with every case, but some was necessary. It’s a grey area - if Cuomo did, I’d like say it’s abuse of power and restriction of freedom. Everything is a balance.
He was amazing during 9/11. Kept his head... Made us keep ours. I'll admire him to my dying day for that. I hope he's as good in our current crisis. Keep the faith.
First, he saves Manhattan, then he saves
BerlinAmerica. He wasn't "saving Manhattan" when he enforced cabaret laws.
He also paved the road for Bloomberg & you saw what happened there.
If not him, who would have done it? Illegal immigration laws exist, but someone has to enforce them.
