Studies by Pew Research (2012), PRRI (2016), and More in Common (2019) all show "liberal" thinkers are far less tolerant of opposing ideas online.

Pew Study

Liberals are the most likely to have taken each of these steps to block, unfriend, or hide. In all, 28% of liberals have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on SNS because of one of these reasons, compared with 16% of conservatives and 14% of moderates.

PRRI Study

Political liberals are far more likely than conservatives to say they removed someone from their social media circle due to what they shared online.

More in Common Study

Highly educated Democrats are the most likely to say that “most of my friends” share their political beliefs. The same is not true of Republicans – more educated Republicans report having about as many Democrat friends as less educated Republicans. And Democrats whose friends are similar to them politically have a significantly wider Perception Gap than those with more political diversity in their friendship groups.

It's a well-documented phenomenon at this point. So don't feel bad if this person thinks his politics are more important than your friendship. He's just brainwashed.

He might also be... slightly retarded. 😊
