This site was made by heroes in secret so that we would have a place to gather when it became clear that reddit was going to stomp us right when we needed to communicate with each other the most. I'm sure if they could have made an app they would have; but right now they have more to worry about. They are still at the point where they are trying to keep us up during attacks and when the site has high traffic. Give it time.
I know this might be hard to believe, but you are not the first person to suggest that – the one thing I think you could gain would be OS “notifications”.
Did you create a stinker of a post and got five “negative” comments? Your phone would have a pop up on the lock screen and/or home screen...
