While sad, this incident is actually just an example of a worrying trend in the military - this newer generation of troops are just as brainwashed as their civilian counterparts. I'm retired AF and my daughter is currently serving on Active Duty in the USAF. We have had extensive discussions regarding her peers and the shocking lack of knowledge for our Constitution/Republic combined with a mind boggling positivity towards socialism... IN THE MILITARY.
I certainly hope that our president directs the various services to include basic Civics courses during basic training once he starts his second term in office as part of his 1776 commission.

If she has an NJP on her service record, especially as an E-5, she'll be unlikely to get E-6 and never see E-7. She'll get high-year tenured out.
Career-limiting moment.
Of course, her "NJP" could have been dismissed and not appear on her service record, and this is just the Navy doing damage control.
