We're not exactly dealing with bright bunch of individuals here if you're talking about average activists and voters. (The leaders aren't stupid, and are dangerous though, so I wouldn't under-estimate them too much).

Now the problem I see here is that the goal is a FAIR election. Throwing out thousands or potentially hundreds of thousands of votes because their own election commission royally screwed their voters doesn't fit in my definition of fair.

The lawyers submitted affidavits, which happens to include statements about election-officials were contacting voters to cure their ballots before election day. That is in violation of state election laws, since they're not allowed to examine the ballots before election day. Democrats thereby (mistakenly?) incriminated democrats.
The real harm in this isn't even letting Democrats cure the votes and Republicans not cure them.
They were opening mail-in ballots and looking at them illegally and no doubt without any observers.
They could have opened the secrecy envelopes, replaced Trump ballots with Biden, and then sealed them up in new envelopes. The secrecy envelope is just a plain envelope with an anonymous ballot in it. Nobody would ever know unless they were there to witness it.
My theory is that they knew they would lose the case anyway and just want to put "Trump is disenfranchising voters" on the record to be able to use it later, politically.
