I was saying a year ago how dumb they were for trying to cater to liberals and not their loyal customers. It’s way harder and more expensive to get new customers then to take care of your existing customers.

I think it is more mundane, and more greedy than that. There was probably some market research/focus group that suggest they can pull the "betrayal" and pick up enough percentage of viewership from the neverTrumpers and walkaway Dems to offset the drop. They are a business, in the end it is not even about "us" vs "the state", it is about how they are looking to prostitute themselves as the Disneyfied conservative channel.
