My Father was an MP there in 1945 and married my Mother and my eldest brother was born in Hamburg in 1948

Frankfurt is about 80km from my hometown. Props to your grandma and a late but neccessary thank you to her aswell.
She lived in very tough times here and helped to rebuild the country. We often forget what the people of these times had to endure.
It´s a shame that their heritage gets abused by the left to push their "antifascist" agenda.
There was a lot of evil in germany, and very bad people had the power for a while but the german (and european) history is full of culture and historic events for those NOBODY needs to be ashamed for. There were good times and bad times but somehow the people managed to get along to the point where we united under a banner to show the world that we are different countries, but one society.
Unfortunately these unity gets abused by powerhungry people and is used to push a very fascist agenda forward to the point of complete and utter control over everybody living in these beautiful countries. Most of the europeans welcome other people and love to show them their home, but they don´t like to get infiltrated or "homogenized". People here have the same set of society standards but also don´t identify as the same. For example, the germans and french would fight side by side of there ever was a common enemy to death, but don´t you dare to call a french and a german as "the same" - they will show you fury like you never has seen :D - I´m joking.
There is a lot of reason to be proud to be of german heritage, but so is there a lot of reason to be proud of every heritage, regardless where your ancestors came from. Everybody did something somewhen.
