This is also a great argument for the Electoral College. Right now, there is a certain limit on the damage that voter fraud in Pennsylvania and Michigan can cause. The electoral votes from other states are not affected by that (well, as long as there is no widespread cheating at the census).

But what if the popular vote was how the President was elected? Enough cheating in Pennsylvania and Michigan, but also in California etc. would erase any legitimate results from other states.
