I definitely agree there is BS happening, but I work in a hospital and we are actually seeing very high numbers of covid hospitalizations, like to the point we could run out of hospital beds between covid and just regular medical issues. So while the false positives can definitely account for our “record” high number of cases, what’s up with the high number of people actually being hospitalized for it? It seems to be especially bad in the Midwest. Now, it is the normal time to start seeing spikes in these respiratory viruses—we’re in the start of our flu season—but our state has been pretty much “open” since June with very few places having mask mandates and we’re now suddenly seeing higher numbers than ever...(including in the towns that have mask mandates).
From what you have been seeing, do you think all these cases are actually covid? Could the tests also be picking up flu and cold viruses and labeling them covid?
I’ve wondered about sensitivity of testing. I read articles way back in April, May, June that asserted the sequencing of covid-19 specifically, had not been done and so tests were made using other coronaviruses. Immunology/microbiology is NOT my forte, so I don’t know the validity of those claims. I will say, there are a lot more hospitalizations and people requiring ventilation than any flu season I’ve seen. I now know at least 6 people that have had covid since June and, except for one, they only had cold symptoms. The other person had a bit more severe symptoms, but never had to go to the hospital or anything. Doctor actually thought it was a sinus infection.
Based on many thing, I believe covid was likely here last winter but we didn't know what it was yet. Was hospital capacity an issue last winter as well? If so, how does it compare to right now?

I too think covid was here last winter—we’ve heard that it could have been “loose” in China as early as August of 2019 and definitely by November 2019; I find it hard to believe our first case wasn’t until January. That January case was just the first confirmed case.
