I find it's best to start with an honest question, like "Should both parties be allowed to observe the ballot counting process?" Then start steering to the point "What should happen if it turns out that one party was excluded from the counting process?" This forces them to think rather then just deny and regurgitate their programing. It doesn't always work, but it's the most effective I've seen personally.
