We're going to go to war with Syria. Russia is going to retaliate with it's nuclear arsenal. It'll take out the US fleets at sea and other tactical targets.
After that they'll launch a full all out strike on Russia which will retaliate with a full strategic deployment. A human wave of Russians will simply march into Europe so any nuclear retaliation hits empty cities and Russian citizens are in friendly targets. At this point I say screw it. It'll be cities filled to the rim with Democrats that are turned to ashes.
The reason this will happen is because they believe they are social geniuses, that Russia would never dare face the social stigma of using nukes when faced with overwhelming conventional forces.
To them it's sort of a game of poker and they believe they're masters at reading their opponents tells and calling their bluff. Given they failed to do so with Crimea and Syria this is a dangerous game but they can't stop playing it.

The most common imagined scenario seems to be a repeat of 1861-1865. Personally, I can't see this happening, because the original version was along sectional lines, and our current dissatisfaction isn't.
What I would envision is widespread violence breaking out in and around our cities, surpassing anything we've yet seen. When our side starts shooting back in any significant numbers, that is the kind of "civil war" I think could actually happen.
