Unless you're behind tor creating completely fake profiles the last 15 years google and Facebook and their affiliates already have all identifying information on you. Also unless you're 10 you probably participated in online shopping. The only thing this phone number thing do is prevent people from spamming fake profiles to troll.

As for the usual suspects, I do my best to simply not use them. I don’t touch Google services, and have every kind of ad and tracker blocking stuff I can get my hands on. I run my own network gear, have my own email server and am very conscious of privacy.

That makes more sense, as long you're taking active steps to protect your privacy then you're in your right to be leery. I just know that a lot of people hate migrating to new services and try to find any excuse not to.
Absolutely. I’m realistic. I know that if the CIA or somesuch wanted to know who I was and where I am, it wouldn’t take much effort; but if I can minimise my attack surface, then I’m away from the common trolls and cancel culture crazies.
