Unfortunately our education system neglected STEM for the last 35 years and now our people are grossly underskilled compared to our counterparts in India and China. 1 out of every 5 US people I interview actually knows what they are doing and isn't just a flashy resume or plagiarized portfolio. I'd say 1 out of every 2 Offshore people I interview knows their stuff like the back of their hand. It sucks watching our country get outperformed and knowing it will take 20 years to catch up
I work in a manufacturing area that is endlessly being transferred overseas. China and Latin America. Had a customer tell me yesterday they are transferring one of their decades old manufacturing plants in the US to Central America. Was in the plans for awhile due to super high north east US labor rates, but they announced a day or two ago. They had saved the plant for awhile with automation, but hey turns out you can move machines overseas too. I guess they think Biden will happen and they will be able to leverage even better outsourcing. I know another plant of theirs will be gone soon as well.
Even in Engineering we are pulling up the ladder behind us as domestic entry level process engineer jobs go overseas and all that's left here is management.

Had a customer tell me yesterday they are transferring one of their decades old manufacturing plants in the US to Central America. Was in the plans for awhile due to super high north east US labor rates, but they announced a day or two ago. They had saved the plant for awhile with automation, but hey turns out you can move machines overseas too. I guess they think Biden will happen and they will be able to leverage even better outsourcing. I know another plant of theirs will be gone soon as well.
Even in Engineering we are pulling up the ladder behind us as domestic entry level process engineer jobs go overseas and all that's left here is management.
