I'm asking this out of ignorance, are paratroopers used anymore? To me the need for an airborne invasion is obsolete due to technology and changes in war strategy. I have the utmost respect for anyone who is a paratrooper, my great grandfather was a paratrooper in WW2 and his stories from Germany could be made into a badass movie.

No, air assault is much more common now. In fact, the 101st Airborne is mostly air assault now.
I think the last combat jump was in Iraq during a show of force mission.
