From what I understand you can't just "go to SCOTUS" you file a lot the local court and it get ls appealed up the chain all the way to SCOTUS.

Right, but I do think in major cases the Supreme Court can pick it up immediately after appeal instead of going through the procedure of appealing to all the lower courts. We’ll see if they actually do their jobs

They don’t want to do that though. That might appear biased, especially if there is substantial proof that they have seen or read about.

To minimize the appearance of bias they would want all other options exhausted before they would take up this type of case.

It’s not only optics, it’s the right way to do something like this. The judicial branch doesn’t want to just take up a case about the election of the other branches without those branches exhausting all possible routes.
