Saving is wonderful and I am an aggressive saver and investor myself... however, if the economy is ruined, the dollar is worthless.
"Debt enslaves the free man." The best thing we can all do is live debt free, as much as in our power.

Not meaning to preach, maybe you are already doing these things... I am saying it for those who may need to hear it. Financial freedom is the best prep.
THIS! My husband and I make less money than a lot of people I know, but we live way better. How? We live in a smaller home in a less expensive area than what we could actually afford. We drive nice cars, but not top of the line. (Mazda and a Toyota). We don't buy a ton of name brand crap. I cook most of our meals, but we do enjoy going out once or twice a week. Almost everyone I know is mortgage poor. We have always lived off of whatever my husband makes, so if I work outside the home, my income is just extra fun money. And if I choose not to work outside the home, that's fine too because we don't need my income to live comfortably.

We do flea markets on the weekends. You wouldn’t believe what people will buy!
