Look at how many people were willing to elect Democrats solely for being Democrats. Once Trump is inaugurated for a second term, there will be no motivation for Dem supporters to come out in droves to vote against Trump. The Democrats have seemingly been able to get away with being so out of touch with their base while Trump's been in office by way of 'Orange Man Bad TM'. They won't have that to any substantial degree in his second term and beyond. I'm inclined to believe they've seriously fucked up in the long term.

EDIT: Sorry for the misleading title. The detail to which I was referring was not to suggest that Dems are somehow conservative. That's BS. It had to do with something that I decided not to put in the post, but I can't change the title...
