If you're tired of seeing shit like this on youtube or any other site?https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/723295332296818759/777216907220615188/unknown.png

Then I have the solution for you.

First, if you haven't already, download uBlock Origins.

Once you have it downloaded, go to the tab where the bullshit is located and then click on this little shield. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/545780486014763020/777219924753645579/unknown.png.

In the menu that pops open, click on the eyedropper icon, which is the element picker. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/723295332296818759/777217174103130172/unknown.png

Then select the bullshit, but make sure it's selecting the entire section of bullshit like so then hit left click. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/723295332296818759/777217327208595466/unknown.png

This little box should pop open and all you have to do is click on create and BAM, bullshit is gone. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/723295332296818759/777217479872872498/unknown.png

Sl0re10 90 points ago +91 / -1

No youtube commercials too.

I got it (brave) sideloaded on my TV last night (android tv) and started using it instead of the YouTube app.

No more ad revenue for youtube from my viewing.

What's wrong with using Youtube Vanced? It's a better alternative than using the web browser.

Mjhombre 17 points ago +17 / -0

Been using YouTube Vanced for years. Forgot that ads were even a thing. Best damn app for YouTube out there. Has play in background, as well.

Sl0re10 5 points ago +5 / -0

Didn't know about it. Will give it a try. Thanks.

Just downloaded Vanced and it's awesome. 🇺🇲👍 I want my MTV.😎

Dudewho 2 points ago +2 / -0

Vanced is excellent. For the video AND youtube music app. Umatrix has been amazing plugin for years for browsers. It's in the midst of being forked, but still works. Blocks domains at the source.

I posted this above, but this is the only way I know of that really works well:

I had a friend build a raspberry Pi-Hole to block ALL ads for ALL devices on my network: https://pi-hole.net/

It works a little too well; it started causing problems with legit sites, so until I figure out how to better fine-tune it, I had to disable it.....but while I had it running, it was pretty sweet. Even killed those stupid forced ads (or now TWO sometimes!) at the start of all YouTube videos.

Pretty slick.... definitely takes some tweaking though.

They have a companion mobile app that is very well done.

AND IT'S ALL FREE!!!!

Side loaded? Can you link to instructions? Thanks

I got started using this article. I also needed a android phone https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/09/05/how-to-sideload-any-application-on-android-tv/

The TV was not locked down. Just a matter of getting the apk (installer "exe") onto it.

If you want to use a apk already installed on your phone you might need a file manager to get to them. I used one called 'file manager' had a screen button to show you the apks installed on your phone. From there it had a backup option that put a copy in a folder in the root of the SD card. Then I moved a copy to the TV per the article.

I could not add this app to the TV front page. There are a bunch of apps in the TV appstore to see apps like this. I just used one of these.

Now I got to get me an android TV!!!

Sl0re10 1 point ago +1 / -0

I was thinking of doing ms word and an email app. If it works; free computer with a TV.

I already have a wireless keyboard with a touchpad.

OGpsywar 1 point ago +1 / -0

One more, an app named NetGuard (orange shield logo) will occupy the single VPN point for current gen and, if desired, force every other app on the device to ask its (your) Permission before being able to access the interwebs. Ostensibly even OEM spybaked programs.

Anyway, an extra point - they can't be on the app stores in this configuration .. but an off-store version/upgrade can run epic blacklist blackholing, as well. Setup is medium knowledge. Smooth app.

https://vancedapp.com/ Install their app. Gives access to download the necessary files. Fantastic. Using it for years. Disable your stock YouTube app and never look back.

My preferred browser

5
TrumpIsMyHotrod 5 points ago +6 / -1

I liked using Brave, but I rely on the bookmark sync too much between devices and it was horrible :(

If they fix it I will go back for sure.

5
Sheepdog_Alpha 5 points ago +6 / -1

This is the only thing keeping me from switching to it. I feel like such a cuck.

11
20KAG20 11 points ago +11 / -0

If youre using Chrome, you kinda are a cuck. Google is fucking you at least.

1
FliesTheFlag 1 point ago +1 / -0

any browser will memorize your most visited links, and if you are going to the same sites over and over you should know the url

1
Sheepdog_Alpha 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm aware, I just have a hundred or so bookmarks and it would be nice to at least be able to import them. I don't even see that option on Brave.

4
trauncher 4 points ago +5 / -1

I care more about the password sync, and still haven't found anything that works as seamlessly as safari/keychain on my macs. I wish I had the same level of perfect instant sync on the non macs in my life. (more than a few)

7
Superpede 7 points ago +7 / -0

BitWarden changed my internet life. You can also generate random, EXTREMELY secure passwords, for your most sensitive logins (banks, brokerages, ect.). It also syncs across multiple devices. I highly recommend it.

1
trauncher 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thanks Pede! I'll look into it! :-)

6
beholdachair 6 points ago +6 / -0

BitWarden.

There is a standalone app, and browser extensions.

1
trauncher 1 point ago +1 / -0

Many thanks Pede! there is a lot of junk out there... its hard to know which one to trust.

I was using Brave, but ran into too many rough edges. Now I’m using Firefox on all my devices.

14
TheGreatMutato 14 points ago +14 / -0

Before using Firefox, consider reading this: https://blog.mozilla.org/careers/words-matter-moving-beyond-meritocracy/

Those people don't believe in meritocracy, which is the heart & soul of open source methodology. They think it's racist or something.

I would recommend Brave or ungoogled-chromium.

TheGreatMutato 3 points ago +4 / -1

Yeah, they have been trying to infiltrate open source for sure, but I feel like projects which don't have a "Diversity & Inclusion" team and have a significant bar to entry aren't affected. I think this is because woke/socialists/communists tend not to be smart enough to contribute to those projects in the first place. I think they'll give up trying to infiltrate and move on to the next industry they want to destroy eventually.

The smartest open source developers I know are the opposite of woke. So I think they'll win out in the end.

FormerGraveheart 2 points ago +2 / -0

Firefox's problems go beyond that ideology. Their CEO has negative value to the company. They recently laid off some of the most useful parts of their team, every release removes another feature that people use, they have recently been fucking with about:config to make it less useful (as though they don't actually want power users at all), their Quantum error screens are positively infantile as though they have nothing but contempt for their users, they refuse to commit to not restricting the API that uBlock depends on (and as we saw with EME, that refusal likely means that they intend to)... They just keep trying to make it look and act more and more like Chrome instead of building on what used to make it good. And there was the extension apocalypse a couple of years ago now. Firefox is now actually irrelevant enough that Google can force certain upcoming changes in Chrome that it wouldn't have had the power to do if Firefox was a viable competitor.

Firefox sucks. We need a viable alternative to Chrome but Firefox is no longer it. Brave is.

The notion of “meritocracy” can often obscure bias and can help perpetuate a dominant culture. Meritocracy does not consider the reality that tech does not operate on a level playing field.

Welp, just installed Firefox after reading that part of this nonsense article alone. So doing a better job than others is racist and biased now, huh? What a time to be alive.

3
20KAG20 3 points ago +4 / -1

Brave's edges are the same as Chrome...

2
trauncher 2 points ago +2 / -0

EESH... When is the last time you looked at Brave? just curious... since I have been able to get it working flawlessly across all of my devices... the only issue I have ATM is that Sync doesn't work to IOS devices... yet...

2
Batman 2 points ago +2 / -0

Last month. I was having issues with video play and it also didn’t work with Adobe Analytics- probably due to the privacy features. I may just need to use two browsers.

1
trauncher 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thats what I've been doing. too. 2 browsers... :-)

2
Grade-AA 2 points ago +3 / -1

Now I’m using Firefox on all my devices.

So you are literally having George Soros filter your web search results and send data about you back to Enemy HQ and you think this is something to be proud of? Telling people to use FF or GC with an ad block is either really bad advice or it is some Lefty operation trying to trick you. Just use Brave and forget about Ads and the Enemy.

2
SordidPontification 2 points ago +3 / -1

literally having George Soros filter your web search results and send data about you back to Enemy HQ

No you're not. It's open source. As I mentioned up-thread, use ffprofile to disable the telemetry as it's controllable via prefs.js.

Brave is a downstream consumer of Chromium anyway which effectively does something similar.

2
Grade-AA 2 points ago +2 / -0

George Soros and one of the faggots from Ebat OWN the "Fact Checking" outfit that literally controls what results pop up on a Firefox browser. He literally controls what you see when you search for something on Firefox. Fact.

0
FormerGraveheart 0 points ago +1 / -1

It's open source.

You keep saying this like it makes a difference. Firefox sends telemetry to Mozilla, open source or not. Chromium is open source too, and still sends telemetry back to Google. Only Ungoogled Chromium doesn't.

2
Batman 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'll give Brave another go.

2
ThePowerOfPrayer 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm using https://swisscows.com/ as my search engine of choice these days and I disable Pocket, which serves bullshit web stories sponsored by Soros, along with RTCPeerConnection and telemetry.

If Firefox wasn't open source, you'd have more of a point.
