Sorry, I don't use spyware operating systems run by Google or Apple that track my every move and action, so I can't help with this issue.

Fair, not my device but I’ve had a bunch people asking me about it.

Linux PC and a dumb/flip phone.

If you feel you absolutely need a touchscreen computer in your pocket at all times, look into the Pine phone, which runs Linux.

Dumb/flip phone:

Basic custom usually-fixed OS. Knows your location, texts, calls. Only your carrier has this info. No Apple/Google presence (it doesn't use their OS). No browser (or if there is a basic crappy one, you shouldn't use it). No apps.

Smartphone:

In addition to your carrier knowing what it knows for a dumb phone above....

Full-fledged OS from Apple or Google, both of which track your every move and "phone home" all that information for who-knows-what use and for who-knows-how-long retention. The OS can be updated over-the-air anytime with more tracking and data-harvesting features.

Browser and apps that let dozens of companies directly feast on your personal data of many types, including potentially microphone and camera access, call logs, text logs, contacts lists, all websites visited, everywhere you've been, and more.

The contrast:

So, one entity (phone carrier) getting the minimum information needed to run a phone, or Apple/Google plus dozens of other companies data-mining the living shit out of you and sharing it all with god-knows-who for god-knows-what purposes.

Bit of a stark difference, huh?

Yea you have to go to settings and just turn off. It pisses me off messing with that stupid toggle.

This is pretty typical unless you go into settings and change it.
