Mccain broke under torture when he was in the Hanoi Hilton. Now understand, it is impossible to withstand torture for all of us, you will break if the torturer is willing to either break or kill you. We used to get briefings in training explaining that if captured and questioned you would give only name rank and Service number. But the same training included the reality that IF you were singled out for torture and it was intensive enough you would break, no man could withstand it. But you were schooled to fudge, lie, equivocate, stall, crawdad, do the democrat shuffle. No particular shame can be attached for breaking, none of us can endure it forever, but do not break Faith with your Brothers and Sisters, your nation.

We had this one ex-fighter pilot, now grounded because he was shot down, captured and the gooks broke his arm, no doctor, it healed, broke his arm, no doctor, it healed, broke his arm. One arm was several inches shorter than the other, mishapen. He was returned in '74, I think, later was assigned to our Wing. He'd tell us a quick story and always ended with how he wanted to use tactical nukes on them to repay them for his suffering, the tortures were real. Lots of people always claimed that is why Mccain would claim that torture did not work, because he knew he himself broke.
Anyhow, Mccain is said to have been cooperative, to what extent is not mine to say. Mccain had a fairly sordid career really.
When McCain was taken prisoner he was an officer and one of, if not the highest ranking officers in captivity at that location. McCain made tapes that the captors wanted him to make and those tapes were then played over speakers for all the other captives to hear. The tapes were also used to break the captives when they were being tortured and questioned. McCain’s first official action when he was elected was to have his military records classified so that the tapes could not be released.
Also less known because he's supposed "bloodline." Bastard grandchild of Prince Albert and some commoner woman. His father (the "royal" bastard) was Sidney McCain, Gen. MacArthurs boss, if that tells you anything. Appointed to the position with no real qualifications.
