I pointed to my ballot on the table and told my friend he could easily pick it up and vote in my place. Later that week he told me he took his mail in ballot, and his girlfriends, and dropped them in a box somewhere.

There is nothing secure about this. Voter ID is the only permanent solution.

Scan your Voter ID to print out your ballot, thumb print on ballot, in person only, highly secure chain of custody, no votes opened for any reason until after all voting stops, counting occurs by hand in a sealed room and does not stop until finished, bipartisan and unaffiliated observers over the shoulder of each counter, observers and counters all shuffle in a random fashion and at random intervals, every counting room has casino level surveillance that must be recorded and stored for a very long time, results are all subject to a barrage of statistical analyses, and a random 15% of precincts are thoroughly audited every election.

Each voter ID can only print one ballot.

All thumb prints are scanned and checked against one another for duplicates over the entire nation.
