Democratic cities did not want to change retirement benefits and current salary/benefit package to reduce the ginormous debt burden, so the cities went all in to shut down tax revenue with the expectations a Federal bailout from Dem leadership.

Debt owed per person:

New York $63k

Chicago $37k

Philadelphia $26k

Portland $18k

Baltimore $16k

NY was $6 billion in the red last year, $4 billion being Medicaid.

This is how they get bailed out. Almost half a million have left this shithole with more leaving soon. Just leave the tab for the suckers still around to pay for it....

When there's massive unemployment you'll see government jobs start to pay less and less, when there's competition in labor markets wages and conditions go down.

Went into Walmart today. Now they're handing out masks. The lady asked if I wanted one I said "No thank you". Then the counter guy came up and said "Sir, we have a mask for you here." To which I said "I don't need one, thanks". Then he got a bit uppity and said "Sir, you need a mask to shop here" and I said "No I don't." Grabbed my cart and walked past them.

Guess what? No one stopped me from shopping, no one attempted to give me a mask or tell me to leave.

76
returnoftherepubs 76 points ago +76 / -0

I had an old lady in home depot take off her mask after she saw me not wearing one.

I had overheard her asking an employee why I wasn't wearing I mask and I butted into the conversation and told her I don't wear one because it's all bullshit. She asked if the employees ever said anything and I explained the policy is like if employees observe shoplifting: do not confront. The employee confirmed what I told her.

When I passed by her later in the checkout she was still not wearing a mask and she was looking happy and told me, "you made me brave."

A guy in the parking lot complimented my MAGA hat. I told him Trump won. Everyone knows it, especially the Democrats.

I live in a solid blue state.

I've had more than one place I've gone to that have the 'mask required unless reason X' (because I needed to, not because I want to) where I've gone in without a mask and nobody's asked me about it at all. Which suggests to me that in some places, they only put the signs up because of corporate policy and don't actually buy into it.

Otherwise, I just use the 'I have health and religious reasons' excuse.

5
meals23 5 points ago +5 / -0

a few weeks ago i was leaving walmart and some fuckwit that works there attempted to stop me from leaving out one of the doors because "this is the entrance, sir. the exit is on the other side of the store." yeah i'm not walking in a giant circle just because some dingleberry told me to so i told him to blow it out his ass

reminds me of that line in fight club "people will do just about anything to avoid conflict" so a lot of people will listen to ridiculous demands as opposed to just telling these folks to fuck themselves

3
Snipthetipandsip 3 points ago +3 / -0

Honestly I was waiting for some righteous employee to say something to me. I wasn't an asshole about it and got in his face, I just showed him the facts. Him or his company have no authority over me. I shopped, and no one stopped me proving to me that I really don't need a mask to shop anywhere.

3
yep__yep__yep 3 points ago +3 / -0

As someone who used to work in LP, nah you weren't worth running off. Private property means they COULD have asked you to leave, but I wouldn't have either.

Don't get me wrong, I don't wear the mask either. It's bullshit. But they COULD have asked you to leave.

I don't understand why there aren't more lawsuits.

Take Regal Cinemas, for example. Multi-billion-dollar corporation. They have to have entire floors full of lawyers on the payroll.

Now they are tottering near bankruptcy because of the shutdowns. Why the fuck aren't they suing Newsom and Cuomo? Why don't they take just 1% of their annual budget and assign it to the one thing that can restore normal operations: a favorable court ruling.

Also all the small businesses. Take your last $1000 and use it as a retainer and get a lawyer to file in court. Maybe that's not going to be enough to have him try the case but if hundreds or even thousands of companies all sued it would overwhelm the government. That's how Scientology defeated the 800-ton government gorilla, the IRS.

Also why not just flat out ignore the restrictions? So far there's been like two cases where fines were ruled invalid and overturned. That's likely to be how they all turn out since this is executive overreach.

So while I sympathize with struggling companies and small businesses, if you go under without fighting then I'm sorry but maybe you deserve to fail.

22
Freadrik 22 points ago +23 / -1

This has eluded me also. Why aren’t local chambers of commerce suing? I mean Walmart is going to be fine, and of course Amazon. But you’d think local businesses would band together (save lawyer fees) to sue as a large confederation. None of that is happening. I see local restaurants with for lease signs now. Did they get a large check to go away? Bars also. If every bar in a city said, “fuck you we are open,” would they fine them all? They could remain open as they fought the fines in court. Nope, just lay everyone off and go home. Don’t get me started on the “christians” and churches. Jesus would not have stopped meeting believers or even sinners because someone might catch a cold. It’s sickening, really.

5
sply1 5 points ago +5 / -0

Some southern California counties that just got bumped into a more restrictive tier are trying to band together to resist the Governor Newso-lini tier system. Riverside is at the forefront, and they're targeting San Diego, Orange County, etc. to form an alliance.

The real problem is that up until now it would have been spun as endangering the public health. Now I think people are starting to realize that it will never end and something must be done.

Honestly I am starting to agree... This dive bar down the street kicked me out last week for not having a mask. He didn't have to, of course, he chose to do that and cost himself a lot of money in the process. I hope that shithole fails, and when it does, I'll say hey you probably shouldn't have been a huge dick to potential customers enforcing a rule made by people who are never gonna give you a penny.

2
nowrongwrong 2 points ago +2 / -0

I live in Commiefornia so I understand there's going to be a level of leftism baseline even in the generally Red/conservative central valley. But even still there's different levels of effort to be found:

  1. Top tier are businesses where the employees wear masks because they don't want some petty bureaucrat shutting them down but the employees never say anything about masks and there isn't even a sign demanding masks on the door. I would give examples but I don't want to call unnecessary attention but suffice it to say I'm a FREQUENT patron.

  2. Pretty good tier are businesses that have mask signs on the door and offer you a free mask if you don't have one but if you decline that's the last they mention it. Honestly, offering free masks is just good customer service and doesn't offend me in the slightest. Still get my business.

  3. OK tier are businesses that have masks signs and hide behind "the orders" and "corporate requirement" but you can tell they really aren't into it and as long as you have something dangling across your chin that's good enough. Half the time the employees have them barely on as well. I'm still willing to patronize if they have something I need because I don't expect employees to quitting their job over bullshit rules.

  4. Shit tier are businesses that have mask signs, demand mask compliance and EVEN FUCKING COMPLAIN YOU ARENT COVERING YOUR NOSE/MOUTH PROPERLY. This is every fucking Starbucks ever. Fuck those guys. I only went in because I had a gift card but I plan to give it to a homeless person if he promises to take a shit in the middle of the store after getting his order.

  5. Fuck you tier are business that lock their doors during business hours and won't even let you inside unless you give them your temperature, a full properly worn mask and stand about ten feet away from everything. This, sadly, is every government office and court building which I have no choice but to go to sometimes.

27
fat50 27 points ago +27 / -0

The answer is simple:

DO NOT FUCKING COMPLY!!!

There's more of us than there are of them. If you own a small business - stay open!

This shit is unconstitutional and cannot be enforced.

Fuck all these motherfuckers who think they control us!

STAY OPEN.

DO NOT FUCKING COMPLY.

17
preferredfault 17 points ago +17 / -0

It's the same shit they did for 9/11. They used that to control our lives. Now they have a pandemic to revive and further that control. Don't look at the incident, look at the result. The problem for politicians is that they see Americans as having too much freedom, too free to conquer. So the aim of each of these events is to chip away at our freedoms and liberties. It's all meant to crush the American spirit and reform it into a communist society where government is akin to god and they sit on the throne.

We never got rid of the monarchy or kings, all they did was make themselves smaller and more numerous.

I can vouch for the details in the death chart. When this virus came by, I was all about the deaths and how it's not very significant (sorry for people's losses) Death rates (per years) for most countries is 650-900 per 100k.

CDD says US is 868

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

World population is 7.8 Billion, I usually using that rate is 186k per day - like that graph!

For USA purposes, we lose 238,000 people every month, form all the reasons - old age, heart disease, accidents etc. In 8 months, that is 1.8 million people.

I said that the Virus was not what they claimed and was the Common-Cold. I said that the flatten the curve was the first step in control over people's movement. I said that this was all to help them RESET the dying and dead money system n the world to a digital one. I said they would wipe out the Middle Class and make homelessness and unemployment the new norm...

They still are not seeing it and soon 4 out of every 5 of the people I know will be homeless and unemployed and will be asking for help. Sadly I tried to help everyone but no one wanted my help they laughed at me. I have no more help to offer them and they will be angry that I have food, power, security and GOLD AND SILVER! Everyone is going to get what they either asked for or allowed to be put upon them by silence and inaction and CONFORMING AND COMPLYING!

No middle class => you are either a direct servant to the elites or you are a member of the welfare caste

I have been reading post-apolayptic science fiction for a few years now. We are living it now.

A great way to ensure you are not destroyed by this is to decouple as much of your life as possible from "the grid" of digital transactions, electricity, etc. as possible. You don't need to become a mountain main, but you need to be able to abide a whole avalanche of bullshit coming your way in the coming decades.

Anyone notice the overlap of major video game releases with lockdowns?

First lockdown that weird furry game for Switch came out.

This lockdown the PS5 came out.

Keep the masses distracted, fat and weak.

1
JoePCool14 1 point ago +2 / -1

Take the tinfoil hat off bud. I'm not saying people aren't distracted by video games, but that's just silly. Not everyone plays video games.

1
The_Bloofy_Bullshark 1 point ago +1 / -0

Actually the point I was making is that so many people didn’t seem to push back because they were happy with their video game distractions. They just didn’t think about it. If they didn’t conveniently luck out with some extra money and a new video game distraction, they would have had much more to be angry about.

I work in software engineering and a lot of people I know who were working at startups lost their jobs. I think maybe 2 of them jumped on writing resumes and looking for new jobs immediately. Most of the rest were posting things or shooting messages in our group chat we have making statements such as,

Hey I have more time to play Animal Crossing now!

A lot of people out by me are more than happy to comply with our new group of lockdowns because they are looking at it as another vacation (without the realization that they aren’t getting an extra $600/wk safety net). Plus,

I can just hop on Live/PSN/whatever and hang out with them that way.

These aren’t kids, many of them are in their mid 30s or older.

My post wasn’t meant to sound like it was about Big Vidya being in bed with the government. The gaming industry solely exists to generate money - obviously they are going to jump on the opportunity. It was more about how people weren’t outraged because they weren’t bored. Just like how out here, people didn’t care that they were out of a job until their extra money didn’t come through. Once that stopped, suddenly the people in love with the governor turned against her. You should see all the hate now from former supporters that their restaurant jobs are gone and unemployment is still working on a backlog from April.

Too many people are staying home either because they are still scared of Wuflu or because they don’t want to deal with the mask shit. Then on top of that they have to have disposable income and feel comfortable spending it on things they want rather than need. Essentially every factor in keeping these businesses afloat has been attacked or damaged.
