The more I think about it, the more I wish we had the balls to keep Mexico when we were at war. From what I have read, when we defeated Mexico, Northern Mexico was largely unpopulated, so if we just let them keep southern Mexico we wouldn't even had to deal with assimilating. Whatever population was there Americans moving west would easily over take, and maybe eventually homesteaders when that act was passed.

Our border would probably be 700 miles. Easily defendable. Plus we'd have a whole lot more dope tropical feeling real estate lol
