It’s Republican vs RepubIican. The cap i replaces the Lower case L.
I think it is straight ticket only. If the ballot is for all Republicans and they put in RepubIican with an i in the system for Trump’s party affiliation he won’t get a vote because it was doesn’t match the party chosen.
My impression is that in precincts with touch-screen voting this is an option. When straight ticket option activated, all entries matching the text of the selected party get selected. Since some Republican candidates' party affiliation entries are erroneous, they don't get selected.
Straight ticket voting is not necessarily an option (although it was in the "pull the lever" days), it is a behavior.
In large groups, in a Presidential election, a substantial fraction of voters will vote for President, and will vote for others who are members of the same party. The disappearance of that fraction of voters, along with the disappearance of votes for the other candidate, are both indicators that something is wrong.
