I looked up the definition of "Dominion" just to be sure i wasn't technically remembering a wrong definition.

It means "control". Ok. Sure, elections involve choosing who controls, but it.... Idk feels like an odd aspect of elections to home in on. Not like "free choice" or just some sort of pride to be able to vote. No. "Control" is what we want our name to be.
