Most definitely.

SPEZ: Scrubbing their own ranks would likely just result in disgruntled former employees with a bone to pick, seeking amnesty in exchange for revenge.

Anyone who developed and peddled such a flimsy piece of software that can silence millions of people are all evil.

Is it though?

I recommended XP for an airgapped gaming machine making use of old hardware and people on the internet lost their shit. Using eol software for voting machines is fuckin insane.

Yes, the 4chan user who discovered this has said that they screenshot all of the employees that were visible to them prior to them “jumping ship.” https://i.imgur.com/Wu9ikgt.jpg

I could not have been more impressed with how they kept tracking SLB down. I mean seriously, matching wood grain to holiday cabin photos... WOW.

4chan = “there be dragons.“ Always come with eye bleach prepared, and never click on a work computer.

Get uBlock Origin, or better yet, use Brave browser to not see ad banners everywhere. Brave also protects a lot of your personal data being collected online.

Is there a list of names of who was deleted?

18
booblitchutz 18 points ago +18 / -0

I’ll never understand why anyone uses LinkedIn. It’s the biggest personal infosec vulnerability there is! Here let me share with the world where I work, who I work with, all my previous employers, where I went to school, the towns I used to live in...

What could go wrong putting all that information into a nice little package for anyone to use?

6
Polks_Corps 6 points ago +7 / -1

I thought ppl used LinkedIn to get laid

1
ClokworkGremlin 1 point ago +2 / -1

I have a friend who said she gets more propositions than job offers over Linkedin, so you're probably not wrong.

2
ClokworkGremlin 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm so glad I'm paranoid.

2
booblitchutz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Paranoia is irrational. Not trusting Microsoft and Zuckerberg with your most sensitive and personal info is just common sense.

2
Based_psychologist 2 points ago +4 / -2

Honestly, I don’t see the harm in it. Anyone who wants to find that info can anyway, and it doesn’t include family info, current residence, contact info... the kind of things I’m more concerned about. My professional info is public record. I use it for networking, and it’s pretty effective for that.

3
residue69 3 points ago +3 / -0

Because instead of writing a bot that scans dozens of sites scraping data and then has to try and aggregate it under the correct identity, one can just scrape it all from LinkedIn and it's all nice and neat already. It's so easy a script kiddie could do it!

Before LinkedIn scammers would have to hack high school reunion databases and those companies that con people into buying "Who's Who" books.

2
booblitchutz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Up to you. While it’s true with enough effort you can locate where someone works, that’s different than putting all that info together in an easy to scrape package. Present a bigger target and you’re easier to hit.

2
Based_psychologist 2 points ago +2 / -0

Lotsa truth there. I think the difference is that I don’t mind if they do. In fact, the same visibility that can be used to hurt me by a malicious person is also used to benefit my career. The risk is low enough and benefits are high enough to be a worthwhile gamble imo, but I freely admit it’s a judgment call that will change person to person and situation to situation.

2
booblitchutz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well, that's the question. You never know what is coming. Kevin Hart 10 years ago would NEVER have imagined that making a joke about his son playing with dolls would ruin his career.

I only bring this up because I want to illustrate that what you evaluate as risk today will not apply tomorrow.

Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps as time wears on cybercriminals or malicious actors in general will stop leveraging your personal data to harm or extort you? Who knows?

I will follow my own advice and do my best to be a ghost on the internet for fear of what is coming, but everyone needs to make up their own mind on this.

2
Based_psychologist 2 points ago +2 / -0

Agree on all points.

Can we go back and pull the missing employees? Way back archive machine?

6
moocow 6 points ago +6 / -0 (edited)

I might be retarded. I'm trying to pull it up and it redirects me to the actual website to signup or login. Not many snapshots. In fact there is a bit of a gap in the timeline of snapshots between mid 2018 and 2020 november 10 being most recent for that page in particular. I am thinking employee numbers referenced from a linkedin page is wrong to go. People are better off using tax records to cross reference and who is still there. If 4chan is on the case they probably found easier methods to find that sort of data.

5
Mintap 5 points ago +5 / -0
