I don't think it's as common these days, but it used to be that a white man could make a living in China simply by being hired to attend parties as someone's guest.
Regardless of whether you believe it's deserved or not, many people recognize the current world as being centered around white cultures. Outside western culture this taboo on viewing the world through a racial lens doesn't exist.
White people are held in very high regard all over the world. That means that many people both desire us as partners and fear us as enemies.
